How to: Eliminate rattle noise inside dash board

On my Jetta there was an annoying noise that seemed to come from the glove box area (or driver's side). The noise triggered especially at 1700-1900 engine rpm. Read on to find out the super easy fix.

1. Open the passenger door. Carefully pry off the black plastic cover using for example a butter knife or a flat headed screw driver. Near the bottom of the cover there is a hole you can stick your tool in and pull the cover off.

2. Under the cover there is a torx screw (T25) that is loose and is causing the rattle. Just tighten it up and you are done!

3. The same goes for the driver's side. There is also a screw like that.

  2. Hi,

I have a dashboard rattle on the top right side, right in front the passenger side. If I lightly press my hand on the dashboard the rattle stops. Was your problem like this? or different location?

    Thanks..

This rattle could not be stopped by hand, it was too deep inside the dashboard.

  7. You make my day! I HAD (now it's a past story :D) this rattle noise since I got my VW Golf 2010 and they never find it at the VW service. They patch the vent, they remove/put back the radio and they never found anything.

    Thank you!

  8. Now I can concentrate on my driving, rather than trying to find out where the noise is coming from. Thank you!

  13. This is awesome. That rattling sound has been driving me nuts for about 6 months now and all it was was a simple tightening of those screws. Thanks!

  14. In my 2009 Jetta there is a noise like a loosen screw inside the speaker compartment at the top/center of the dashboard... do you know how to open it to check out? Thanks!
